The AD 18 is a small, full-digital class D Bluetooth amplifier built-in with a headphone amplifier and supports subwoofer output. Customers can connect it to their computer and use it to drive their headphones with an amplifier or to power their passive speakers (4-ohm speaker produces 80W x 2 output power). The sophisticated matte aluminum housing reduces interference.

The AD 18 features Patented SDB sound and ±8-level treble and bass adjustment, as well as an independent headphone amplifier design and advanced DSP technology. The CS8422 chip mainly acts as a signal converter, receiving optical and coaxial signals and transferring all signals. The TAS1020B supports stereo sound 16-bit/24-bit and sampling rates up to 96kHz. For better sound quality, the unit uses SDPI output instead of internal DAC output design, providing strong anti-interference ability and more high-fidelity.

The HP Amplifier Chip is MAX97220A, and the analog/digital converter IC is CS5341, which is accurate to 24-bit 48kHz. The device can convert AUX signal to digital signal, and the digital signal is then processed by CS8422. The AD 18 uses a digital amplify circuit, where all analog signals are converted to digital signals to maintain the same PHASE of input and output signal, with zero phase shift and strong anti-interference ability. It also features high efficiency up to 90%, with TAS5508C for digital signal DSP processing and pre-amp, and TAS5342A for digital signal rear-AMP.

The SMSL AD 18 has 6 input methods: USB, coaxial, analog, Bluetooth, and two optical fibers, using two different chips for SPDIF and USB input. The USB input comes from Texas Instruments' TAS1020B, fully supporting 24-bit/96kHz, while the SPDIF uses Cirrus Logic's CS8422, which can decode files up to 24-bit/192kHz, but only up to 96kHz on the AD 18. The device also features Bluetooth 4.2 with apt-X and easy NFC connectivity.
